In the 14th century an English clergyman became known for his aggressive application of a principle he did not invent, but perfected. When faced with competing explanations the simplest one is usually closest to the truth. So William of Ockham passed into history for his use of Ockham's Razor, to pare down the complex and convoluted to a simpler, more understandable, more testable form.
There have been many attempts lay this razor to rest, the most common argument being we have become an advanced specie, with an expanding understanding of the universe around us. Yet many mistakes of the recent past could have been avoided or their severity reduced, should the use of Ockham's Razor have
been common. The dotcom crash of the early two thousands, the financial crash of 2008, the unfolding bubble of crypto even as I write, resulted from actions being taken which no one understood, or questioned early enough and aggressively enough.
The military has its own version of the Razor, Keep It Simple Stupid, KISS. When knowing what you are doing is a matter of life and death, that provides its own razor. The SI lo ES way, if it is too complicated to understand them maybe do something else.
