I prefer to call it mental relaxation and rehearsal (MR&R) it does contain some aspects of meditation, but the main aim is to, from a relaxed state, program the body for performance. This may be calming down, tightening up, practicing an action, my aim is to determine and set the right tension for the moments ahead.
I typically do 5 MR&Rs a day, on waking a more traditional meditation where I focus, on my 'third eye' (between the usual two) , this is my longest exercise and can last 10-15 minutes, the others are 3-4 minutes. Later, usually after my morning work out I do my 'wave' where from a state of mental relaxation I explore my body with a wave of blood, lingering on areas where I feel problems. Next, before focused work I visualise my goals for the day, the other two are conducted whenever convenient and I might even repeat them, one is to set my mood, the other to see success, create a winning environment.
If you do only one, the first one, focusing attention even for a short time you will see benefits.
