Postscript: Lots of feedback on this, some confusion. Here is a recent example. Southwest Airlines cancelled Seventeen Thousand flights over the Christmas period, that is about 2.5 million passengers inconvenienced to some degree. One flight was ready to go except they were short one flight attendant. Several flight attendants were on board going to the next destination to work other flights. They all called through to headquarters to request permission to work, no one at headquarters got around to answering and the flight was duly cancelled, with the knock on effect of flights the attendants aboard were scheduled to work from the destination, being cancelled. No one thought to take the initiative and the responsibility to make the decision, on the spot to use one of the attendants on board, they were waiting on permission, which is for sure safer, for now.

If the company has created an atmosphere where people staring at an obvious solution to a clear and present danger cannot act, then they will pay the price. But you, as an individual, if you take the chance and act, and are prepared to take the consequences, this will set you apart from the crowd.

This is advanced SI lo ES, not to be trifled with, you have to earn the right to use this. If you are at a disadvantage in life this is a crucial skill to master. Whether you are employed, have your own business or both, this can be a potent tool to set yourself apart from your competition. First, make sure you are as close to being indispensable as possible, your bosses or customers have to consider you a must have, now you have the space to act.

Sooner or later a situation will arise where swift bold action could win the day and result in substantial returns. Often, because of the risks involved your customers or bosses will be hesitant. This is where you have to assess your likelihood of success if you act, the upside, and whether you can survive the downside should the worst come to pass.

Do not seek permission, act, if you fail, beg.
